So you want to be well? Well, what does that mean? The dictionary defines wellness as, “the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.” Yeah, but what does that mean? Wellness is a state of being caused by a lifestyle of pursuing wholeness and balance in four dimensions of well being (mental, emotional, physical and spiritual). Living an integrated and holistic lifestyle encompasses the totality of the person, not just one area. Putting more emphasis on one dimension of wellness or neglecting other dimensions reveal your priorities but do not promote balance and holism.
Lets further break down what those four dimensions encompass.
Mental – Your thought life, intellect and perceptions (mind).
Emotional – Your feelings, passions, pleasures and displeasures and your personality (heart).
Physical – Your body, outer world and material things (body).
Spiritual- Your beliefs, purpose, sense of self, religion, values, and morals (soul).
Balancing all four body systems full-time sound exhausting and time-consuming, however, a change in habits, strategies, and commitment can make all the difference between a lifestyle of wellness and temporary changes. Are you in? I’m right here with you.
So we’ve learned wellness is a lifestyle. A lifestyle is composed of habits. Habits become less of a chore and easier with time and consistency. Consistency is key! Is it easy? Not at first. Is it worth it? Absolutely. It feels great to feel great! You got this…we got this. So let’s do this.
